Mohegan Sun
Our Week-Long Adventure Across Five States
Our recent vacation was an exhilarating whirlwind, spanning five states in just one week. The journey began as we flew into Hartford, Connecticut. As soon as we landed, we were greeted by a downpour that turned the afternoon into what felt like nighttime. Despite the gloomy weather, it felt surreal as if we had changed time zones during our flight. However, we remained in the same Eastern Standard Time zone as our home state of Florida.
The rain didn’t dampen our spirits because our first day’s plan was to travel and visit an indoor venue – the Mohegan Sun.
A Night at Mohegan Sun
The highlight of our Mohegan Sun experience was attending the Last Comix Standing show at 8 PM. Armed with scoring sheets, we became judges for the evening. The show featured 10 talented comedians vying for a spot in the next round. The top four comedians, based on audience scores, advanced, and the top two performers took home a cash prize. It was an engaging and laughter-filled evening.
Before the comedy show, we spent some time exploring the casino. Inspired by a co-worker’s recommendation, I had researched the Mohegan Sun and was particularly intrigued by the promise of a massive indoor waterfall. Our first encounter was with a small waterfall, featuring just a trickle of water and a solitary wolf statue perched on top. Initially, I was a bit underwhelmed, but we decided to continue our exploration.
The Hidden Gems of Mohegan Sun
Our persistence paid off when we stumbled upon the large waterfall I had read about. It was a breathtaking sight, made even more magnificent by the large blue Chihuly glass sculpture situated in front of it. As an avid photographer with a particular love for Chihuly’s work, I was thrilled to capture the vibrant blue color and intricate shapes of the sculpture. I have photographed Chihuly glass in numerous states, and each piece never fails to amaze me with its beauty and complexity.
Continuing the Adventure
After our memorable time at Mohegan Sun, our journey took us through several more states, each offering its own unique experiences and landscapes. I can’t wait for our next adventure, wherever it may take us since I have a goal to visit all 50 State!

“Underwhelmed by the trickle of water” made me laugh. I hope your trip holds more exciting encounters. I understand there’s four more states you’re going to explore?
I’m glad you were able to see the waterfall you wanted to see. Seeing Last Comix Standing sounded wonderful so I had to check out Mohegan Sun’s website. They have a short, action-packed video about their activities. It definitely showed how rain could not put a damper on your fun!
Amanda, I’m so glad you found the larger waterfall. I am a Chihuly fan, also. And in Phoenix, at our Desert Botanical Garden, there are some permanent Chihuly installations, which stayed after 2 multiweek multi-location shows. While I am unlikely to visit Connecticut, I love your coverage of the Mohegan Sun, its sights, and the comedy show. I like to watch DryBar Comedy (now its own channel, I believe), for clean comedy. I am so glad you are getting closer to your goal of visiting all the states.
Hi Kebba, Yes, I have photographed the Chihuly at the Desert Botanical when they had a special night event. It was a unique experience to photograph the glass at night.
