First Sunrise in My New Missouri Home
On my very first morning after moving to Missouri to build my dream photo studio, I woke up to a breathtaking sunrise right outside my living room window. Since my tripod was still packed, I set my camera on the coffee table, which ended up catching a reflection of the sunrise that almost looks like shimmering water.
I came back to Missouri to be closer to my family and to create my dream photo studio in their incredible location, complete with a peaceful lake and blooming wildflower fields. One of my favorite views so far is the wildflower field with a charming new red barn in the background. All it needs is a smiling family or a playful puppy to make the picture complete.
Nature here is amazing. I cannot wait for cooler weather so I can enjoy it even more. At my very first SCORE business meeting at the local library, I looked out the back window and saw deer wandering the property. Another day, I watched a mama deer cross the road in front of me, followed by her hesitant fawn. I slowed down, and it jumped across the road and joined its mom.
At night, I have been treated to fireflies glowing in the backyard. It instantly reminded me of Stephanie Brinkley’s book Lightingbug Jamboree. Out my living room window, I have even spotted two hummingbirds sipping from bright orange lilies.
Life here is full of homegrown goodness too. My parents’ hoop house is overflowing with tomatoes, zucchini, onions, cucumbers, lettuce, garlic, potatoes, and more. Mom makes the most amazing bread and butter pickles. They sell extra produce from a little roadside cart, and they also grow the sweetest blackberries. During my first week home, I picked fresh tomatoes and blackberries, and Mom turned the berries into a delicious blackberry cobbler.
