DIY Pet Pom Pom Rug
I just created a custom DIY pom pom rug out of yarn for my 6 spoiled cats. They love new cat beds. The photo above features Autumn and below is Gidget and Autumn cuddling together on their new pom pom rug.
The cat rug I made is “24” x20 “, but you can make one larger or smaller for your cat, dog, or yourself.
Supplies:
Yarn – 8 skeins or more for a larger rug
Area Rug Pad  – non-stick rug mat
Scissors
Step 1:Â To make the pom poms, IÂ wrapped the yarn around my left hand about 40 times.
Step 2:Â I then slid the yarn off my left hand and wrapped yarn around in the opposite direction twice, pulled the yarn tight and doubled knotted it.
Step 3: Make sure to leave a long piece of yarn as a tail to tie the pom pom onto the area rug pad.  Then cut the yarn. I recommend fabric scissors since they cut the yarn easier. Here’s an Amazon Affiliate link for fabric scissors.
Step 4: Double knot the pom poms onto the rug mat to keep them secure.  Here’s an Amazon Affiliate link for the Area rug pad .
Step 5:Â Cut off the excess yarn tail so that it’s about the same length as the rest of the pom poms.
How many pom poms? 110! I can’t believe how many pom poms it took to fill up the rug. I even cheated and didn’t completely fill up the rug and cut a few inches off of it since I thought it was large enough for my cats. My rug ended up being 24″x20.”  I used two different color yarn purple and brown and alternated them.  I made the fluffy pom pom rug while watching t.v.
We have more cat furniture in my house than regular furniture. We have cat chairs, benches, cat towers, boxes, scratch posts and lots more. I found this new brown cat bench at the Global Pet Expo to use as a prop for my upcoming photo shoots. My cats love the comfortable padded bench.
