Create Weekly: Week 10 A Tribute to My First Camera
This week, I paired my book with a special version of the camera that started my photography journey — the Pentax K1000. While this isn’t the exact camera I used growing up (my original black K1000 was worn out by the time I finished college), this one caught my eye because of its custom red leather finish. I like how the red color perfectly matches my book Being Visual in Your Business and logo!
My original Pentax K1000 holds a significant place in my story. It was my parents’ camera first — a gift from my dad to my mom on their first wedding anniversary. When I started using it at 13, I fell in love with photography. That camera was my constant companion as I photographed my aunt’s dogs, baby ducks, flowers, frogs, and the beauty of nature.
Though I eventually transitioned to digital photography, the K1000 taught me so much about patience, composition, and the art of storytelling. This red beauty reminds me of those years and inspires me to revisit old prints and negatives.
What sparks nostalgia for your creative beginnings? I’d love to hear about it!
